Traditional Polish Easter cake with shortcrust pastry and rich decorative toppings.
Instructions
Mix flour, sugar, butter, egg yolks and salt to form a dough. Knead briefly and chill for 30 minutes.
Roll out the chilled dough and press into a greased baking tray, creating raised edges.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely.
Spread the jam or preserves evenly over the cooled pastry base.
Arrange marzipan pieces, chopped nuts and dried fruits decoratively over the jam.
Drizzle with royal icing made from icing sugar and water. Let set before serving.
