Aromatic spiced cake inspired by Indian chai tea with warm spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger.
Instructions
Brew strong chai tea and let it cool completely
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, pepper, and baking powder
In another bowl, beat eggs, then whisk in oil and cooled chai tea
Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until just combined
Pour into greased 23cm cake tin and bake at 170°C (340°F) for 50 minutes until a skewer comes out clean
Mix icing sugar with chai tea to make glaze. Drizzle over cooled cake

- plain flour 250 g
- caster sugar 200 g
- eggs 3
- vegetable oil 150 ml
- strong chai tea, cooled 200 ml
- ground cinnamon 2 TL
- ground cardamom 1 TL
- ground ginger 1 TL
- ½ tsp ground cloves 0.5 TL
- ½ tsp black pepper 0.5 TL
- baking powder 1 TL
- icing sugar 1
- strong chai tea 2 EL
